Governor of Illinois,
Dear Sir: I hope you will excuse the liberty I take in dropping a word to you at this time as it is strictly a business matter.
Should you have the power in your hands of paying off the discharged Volunteers you will confer a favor by sending the amount due to me immediately. I was discharged from Captain Phineas B. Rusts Company and returned to Mendota (my home) in accordance with law. The appropriation has been made and it is but reasonable to expect that this matter will receive your prompt attention
Should this matter be in the hands of the Ajutent General you will please pass this to him with the request that it be at once attend to
