Dear Sir: My son Harrison J. Baker enlisted last Oct., as a private in the 89th Ills. Vol. Went into camp at Springfield in Dec. was attacked with Diphtheria. From Springfield he was sent to Tenn. In Feb. I received a letter from an agent of the Christian Commission informing me that my son was very low with Pneumonia, I went after him, and brought him north. He has been at home since that time, untill a few days ago, lungs and heart both troubling him. He was examined at Nashville for a discharge; part of his transportation home was paid at Louisville, to be charged on his discharge papers; since that time we have heard nothing of them. He was examined a few days since in

Chicago, the examining physician said he was not fit for duty, but his best way would be to go to Nashville, and get his discharge from there; and he has gone.

Would not a recommendation from you be of great use to him? I know it is a great favor to ask of you. My son I would give if my country's good demanded it, but he has gone to be a burden not a help.
