Gen. Hospt. Madison Ind June 11th 64
Hon Richard Yates
Springfield
Sir
At the earnest solicitation of many of our sick and wounded soldiers now at this place I take the liberty of adressing your Excellency upon the matter. They wish to be transfered to their own State
They claim it as just and right, other western States have sent here and got their Soldiers and our noble state of Illinois should also be among the rest of the sisters
She has done more than her part and willing to do more yet
Will your Excellency have the Kindness to see what can be done
in transferirng them to Northern Hospt. By so doing you will confer a blessing upon our noble warworn veterans in the cause of civil liberty
I have the honor to be yours in Fraternal Bonds
