Gov Yates I am a sick soldier and according to justis I think I am entitled to a discharge from service, I have bin unfit for duty for the last eight months, on the 8th of May I received a furlough to go home I arrived home on the 25th I found my family in a suffering condition I have a wife and two children and a father and mother that are dependent upon me for thare suport, my Father and Mother are boath intierley helpeless one
being 78 and the other 77 years old. my children are boath small one 3 and the other 1 year old I am poor and with what I can get from government will not keep them comfertable
I think I am getting some better and if I could get home this fall I could be some assistance to them I think I would be doing to my God and Country by releaveing the soufferings of my Parents and children than I can posiable do in the field, if I can have any assistance it woold be gratefuly received

Respectfully referred to Major D G Brinton Medical Director U.S. Hospitals Quincy Ills. with the request that James H Holsey Priv. Co. C. 91st Regt Ills Vols be examined and discharged if found unfit subject. Please return this letter with endorsement of action taken Richd Yates Governor
Respectfully returned with the information that Corp Halsey has been under treatment in this hospital for Chronic diarrhea. The disease has now left and nothing but a resultant feebleness, which will pass off in a few weeks hinders him from returning to duty. It is certainly not a case for discharge
