To His Excellency Richard Yates

Gov of the State of Ills -

Sir I have the honor of asking his Excellency a Transfer by Promotion to the front I Served 3 years as my record will show, in that famous Regiment Known As the 18th Ills the day my time expired in that Regt. I was mustered as Adjt. of the 136th Regt we are now Stationed at Columbus and likely to remain here for some time I would much rather be with an old command I ask promotion I will act in my present capacity if you will only Send me to the front I will Go for the road in fact any thing to be in active service you must know how an old soldier dislikes the Garrison duty however Gov I do not complain I have learned long since to be content hopeing to hear from you at an early date
