Louisville, Ky
July 12th 1864.
To Gov. Richard Yates
Springfield Ill.
Telegram received. Three hundred Illinois men were sent from here for Quincy June 21st but on account of the low water had to return to Jefferson Barracks. The Medical Director at St Louis has been instructed to send them forward as fast as practicable. Every effort will be made and the necessary orders given to send to Illinois General Hospitals such men as are not available for duty in the field. The Hospitals in Memphis are becoming crowded and western Soldiers are being sent even from New Orleans. Tho beds at Mound City are held
in reserve for them.
