I am a Sergeant of Company L 2nd Ill Arty. enlisted in the Battery at Chicago on Jan 19th 1862. was at the Siege of Corinth, Battle of the Hatchie. the advance toward Granada Miss. Seige and Surrender of Vicksburg. and he expidition from the latter
place to Monroe La. on this march I was taken Sick with chills and miasmatic fever and have been unable to do duty since nor is there any prospect of my returning to active Service as my constitution is Seriously impaired: My term of Service expires January next and the future looks dark not being able to labor and haveing two little motherless children depending upon me for Support; but for my Sickness I should have had the position of 2nd.
