Lieu't Col James Oakes U.S.A
Asst Provost M Genl Ills
Springfield.
Dear Sir:
S. L. Spinks Esqr will hand you this. Please give him your attention.I am fully satisfied that it is best for Capt. Hill & his Company to remain there at least a while longer. If you will advise Gen. Heinzelman that I think the peace of the community requires them to remain there for a time or will order the Company to remain there till I can present the matter to Gen Heinzleman or at Washington I will be obliged to you.
If you have any discretionary power in your hands to keep the company there, I think it would be very advisable to do so.
Let me know by Mr Spinks or by letter upon these points.
Very Respectfully
Rich. Yates
