Atlanta, Ills. July 27, 1864
Gov. Yates,
I write you, to assertain of you if a man by name of John B. Wolfe, has reported at Head-Quarters there in the last week and if so where was he assigned to duty - enclosed you will find a letter partly directed to him. Wil you if you know - or if you can find out of any of your officers or clerks you will be so kind as to send this letter enclosed to him & I will pay you for your trouble or be a thousand times obliged to you. If he has not reported there will you return the said letter to me [immediately?] - when Mr. Wolfe left home he was in very poor health and I am quite uneasy about him.
Clinton is our home and I have had but one letter from him written the same day he started at Decatur in which he said he would start for Springfield at 4 o'clock A.M. I have full confidence in you for I have heard of your kindness. I have heard of your kindness and am more than willing to pay you for all necessary information on this subject.
