Jacksonville. July 27th 1864-
Dear Governor.
The bearer of this Manuel Roderiggs one of our Worthy Portugee Citizens has a son in one of the Hospitals at Louisville Ky. was wounded in some one of Genl Sherman's battles and has been in hospital some time. Mr. R. learns that his son is much worse and will in all probability soon die, he is very anxious to have him die at home. and is on his way to Louisville to get him if possible. I do hope you will give him such papers to your agents at Louisville as will forward his objects.

Another of our Portugee soldiers Joseph [Neara?] is in the same hospital with Toney Roderiggs and is badly wounded through both ankles and his friends send a young man along with Mr. Roderiggs to try and get him home. your kind services in his behalf will be requested by them-get them home if possible.
