General Head-Quarters, State of Illinois,
Adjutant General's Office.
Sanitary Department.
Springfield, Aug. 8. 1864.
His Excellency
Gov Yates. City
Dear Sir
Major Woods Ills State Mil. Agent at Saint Louis Mo. informs me that several Illinois Soldiers in Hospitals, Can be transferred to their Own State when ever you signify a wish that it should be done.
Director Mills in charge of the Med. Department says he will order the transfer when we say we can accommodate them in Illinois.
Major W. is doing a fine work there. He is really more efficient than I thought he would be, The Western Sanitary Commission show him great favor, furnish him room for writing &c, and he gets his boarding on fair times. But he is extremely sensitive, and like his father cannot brook neglect, from high or or low stations. If he applies for instructions, do let these be sent without delay, He went to the post assigned him with the intent of doing his duty, His experience in the Army qualifies him, and gives him access to Officials
Please send him advises concerning the transfer of men to this Post.
Very Respy
John R. Woods
Secy.
