Hon. J. B. Wakeman
Dear friend
I have recd your letter-and have got Martin H. Capel of Jacksonville to go up and see Lansing and others. I have requested him also to see you. He left last night and will see if he can, Geo. S. Bangs and E. R. Allen-
I have thought this better than to write to the Gentlemen whose names you give as I have no or but slight acquaintance
with any except Lansing. I should not like to do any thing which would seem indelecate-and it would perhaps not be proper for me to interfere directly in the election in a County-Mr. Capel is a shrewd good man and he will be likely to do more than I could do by letter.
Should you be beaten will you not see that Joslyn is instructed right. I wrote to Hanks McClane some time ago-have you seen him?
I have nothing personally
against Judge Joslyn-in fact I am not sure that I know him, but I am informed that he would not support me cheerfully. I hope that you may be successful.
Your friend
