Your favor of the 10th inst was duly recd, and I at once replying by telegraph, that I had arranged for the Arms.
Colonel B.J. Sweet 8th Veteran Reserve Corps, new in Command of the Port of Chicago, is a good officer, & disposed to do his duty. He will arrange a safe depository for the arms at Camp Douglas, & receive them, & hold Subject to your order.
Be kind enough to order that proper ammunition, be sent with Arms. Please send them to me with such instructions as you deem proper & I will see them Carried out.
