Springfield, August 19, 1864.
To the President.
I request that Major Adolph Schwartz, 2nd Illinois Lght Artillery, at present Acting Aid de Camp to General McClernand in this city, be ordered to report to the Governor of this State for duty in the Adjutant General's office or in the field, as may be required, and that he may be entitled to such allowances, as other officers are, when on duty in this city.
Major S., having done active service while in this city, & having volunteered his services to the Governor on several occasions, should be entitled to the allowances mentioned above, from the 1st day of July 1864, & the order assigning him to duty in this State should be dated back to that day.
