Governor Yates
Dear Sir,
Excuse the liberty I have taken in [ackessing?] a stranger but knowing your goodness of heart I feel free to write.
On the 17th of July my youngest child died, on the 29th my only Sister who has been living with me from infancy also died very Suddenly with heart desease. My husband is Surgeon of the 75 Ill Reg. I received a letter from there stating that he was very sick with Camp Direar. He
has been having a run of fever of nine day when the fever left him direar sett in. He applied for a leave of absence to come home and recruit. This has been refused him But has the promise of being sent to Lookout Montain the officers hospital. Now if they do not Succeed in having him removed he too must die.
What I wish of you is if you have any influence to try and have the commanding officer grant him permission to come home. Where he can have a change of diet which will in all probability save his life. He has been sick since the 1st of July So if anything can be done it must be done speedily.
And I and my little family will be under lasting obligations
With much respect
Mrs. Dr. C. Fisher
PS I know not that you have any power to do anything but in my great distress I must appeal to someone.
Fisher, Mrs. Dr. C.
