Dear sir:

I most respectfully request the appointment of Hannibal C. St. Clair, Lieutenant of 35th Illinois Infantry, to the position of Assistant Quarter Master with the rank of Captain. I will vouch for him as every way worthy, and as also entitled to it from his Conduct and bearing as a soldier. He is also well known to you as the son of Lon H St. Clair, Esq. and old resident of this county.
