Dear Sir I take the liberty of introducing to your favorable notice my particular friend Matthew H. Hawks Esq of this place. Mr Hawks is a Kentickan by birth 25 years a resident of this place and early friend of yours in 1850 in Tazewell County and secured you especial aid in Walnut Grove in Tazewell in your contest with Harris in 1850 is a Clay Whig of the old school true and reliable and a true republican in the last campaign is the Son in law of Wm. T. [Meaforcny?] and is all right in all respects

If you can do any thing for him you will greatly oblige many of your new and early friends, and much oblige me Respectfuly Your
