Article of Agreement, made and entered into between John Williams Commifsary General for the State of Illinois on the one part and Jacob R Hollowbush and Henry, 'V. Sullivan, each of the County of Adams, and State of Illinois, of the other part, Witnesseth:

The said Williams as Commissary General for, and on behalf of the State of Illinois, and the said Hollowbush and Sullivan, their Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, have covenanted and agreed, and by these presents do mutually covenant and agree to and with each other as follows to wit: -

First The said Hollowbush and Sullivan their Heirs, Exetors and Assigns shall supply, or cause to be supplied and issued, in the City of Quincy all the Rations, to consist of the Articles hereinafter specified, that shall be required for the use of Lieut. Col Moses M Banes Regt. of Infantry to rendezvous at the encampment near the City of Quincy, commencing on Monday the 26th day of August A.D. 1861, and to continue during their continuance at said place of rendezvous, at the price of sixteen cents for each complete ration. Payment to be made whenever funds can be furnished by the Treasurer of the State for that purpose.

Second That the Ration to be furnished by virtue of this contract shall consist of the following articles by: One and a quarter pounds of fresh Beef, or three quarters of a pound of salted pork, Eighteen ounces of Bread, or Flour, and at the rate of eight quarts of Beans, or ten pounds of Rice, ten pounds of Coffee, and fifteen pounds of Sugar, four quarts of Vinegar, one pound of Star Candles, four pounds of Soap and two quarts of Salt to every hundred Rations, Said Supplies to be issued on the Requisition & Receipt of the acting Commissary of the Regiment, or the Commanding officer of the Regiment in


in any business part of the City of Quincy.

Third That fresh Beef shall be issued, at least twice in each week, if required by the Commanding Officer.

Fourth It is clearly understood that the provisions, stipulated for to be furnished, and delivered under this Contract, shall be of good, merchantable quality, and should any difficulty arise respecting the quality of the Provisions to be delivered under this contract, then the commanding officer is to appoint a disinterested person to meet one of the same description to be appointed by the Contractors. These two, thus appointed will have power to decide on the quality of the provisions, but should they disagree then a third person is to be chosen by the two already appointed; the whole to act under Oath, and the opinion of the majority to be final in the case.
