              Sir:

                   Charles A. Herrmann of Company E. 29th Mo. Vols. is confined in your Hospital.  I am informed by Mr. H's wife that his wound is of such a nature as to incapacitate him permanently for duty.  Mr Hermann is a citizen of Springfield, and has a large family here in very destitute circumstances.  If possible, I wish you would have Mr H. Examined without delay and have him discharged if he is a fit subject for a discharge.
