Burlington, Iowa, Nov. 15th 1864
Hon Richard Yates
Governor of Ill.
Dear Sir
I may have to call to your attention Samuel M. Trulock formerly of this place & now a member of Company I in the 72'd Ill. Infantry. Mr. Trulock enlisted in Fulton County in your state in July 1862 & has been in the service ever since & I am told & do not doubt the truth of the statement that he has proved to be a most excellent and gallant soldier. Mr. Trulock is well advanced in years, being 54 years old and of the nearly three years of arduous service a position in the commissary or quartermasters department would be very desirable both because of the relief to his overtaxed [illegible] & the course of the increase of pay which would enable him to support the large family now wholly dependent
upon him.
May I ask you to treat Mr Trulock's case with consideration & do for him what you (illegible) his results & the public service will justify your understanding
Your very Obt. Servt.
