Dear Govr
This morning I have recd Something reliable from the election in Illinois-- I see that the union party have a small but viliable majority on joint ballot – It will be their duty to elect a United State Senator – you will doubtless, be a candidate I wish to inform you Sir, that I have not forgotten your uniform Kindness to me –-- heretofore-- I am for you & if I can be of any Service to you in any direction, you have but to command me & I will travel to any part of Illinois to discharge that duty – If I can be of any Service to you at Springfield during the Session of the Legislature & before the nomination is made-- name it & I will be on hand – you have been my friend & I desire to prove my sincerity towards you by acts -- you will see by enclosed
extract that I have been doing some Service in West Tennessee
