Col. Jno. M. Snider

                         Dr Sir
You will see by the enclosed how much progress gen. Palmer's statement has made toward Mustering me out.
Now my good John, if you have any compassion for a man in such suspense please have the gov. write such a letter as I know he can, enclosing this of gen. Palmer, begging them not to refuse a muster because a blundering Adgt_ did not do his duty.
I have been greatly straitened for want of the Eight months pay due me, & fear if the thing is longer delayed they will think there is something "Fishy" in it on account of the detention. Hoping the gov_ may be as earnest to aid me in getting out of the Army as

I am to get him into the U.S. Senate_ I remain

                                Truly Yours

                                            W"m J. Rutledge

P. S. I would not trouble any one with this paper if sending it on myself would be as available. but I feel assured it would not
