Dear Sir
By the urgent solicitation of Rev A. T. Westover Pastor of the Baptist Church of this place I am requested and herewith take the Liberty of writing you in his behalf if in the Formation of the New Redgments of Vol there is an opertunity of his getting an apointment as Chaplin, providing his recomendation should meet your requirements for Loyalty and Christian Character of this if you could place him you can have the best and most satisfacty Evidence
As to myself you will probaly recolect me in my efforts in behalf of the "Galva Greys" of this place [illegible] the 17th Redgment Ill Vol, at the time that I was at Springfield Elder Westover wanted I should see you in relation to his going into the Army at that time but our citizens did not wish him to Leave charge of his church He views intelligently the unhapy condition of our country and is determined to Lend his aid if possible in bouth a Speertual and temporal way to put
down this rebelion, to the Union we Love and have so Long Cherished. (He will pray first then Fight) hence my efforts for him through you. Could you place him as Chaplin of a Redgment or in any other position where you want a man of Energy, Ability, and Moral Worth, you can have the recomendations of those you know fuly and the same will meet the aprobations of bouth his and your Friends
I desire your Views in relation to a prospect for Him. I have been designat to write Genl Mather also but presum this matter come before you more properly
