No 32. Voucher for Abstract G.
Address, 336 North Franklin St. Chicago Novr 20/64
To, Govr Yates
His Excellency of Illinois.
My dear Governor, I wish I may Even be worthy to have such a Memoir written of me as I have written of you. I wrote and told you - I wrote and told Col.Lomes, Col. Ax Snyder also-- that I had completed such a memoir of you, which would make fifty, or sixty page, and which could be printed for circulation at a cheap rate. I have had no word from Either of you. I called last week at the Tremont with Mr. Church to see you. I did not know till the last hour that you were in town. I have tried hard to get a publisher but have failed. If I had succeeded I would have [had?] the memoir at cost price all over the North West.
I shall be glad to know whether you want it or not. The speeches are omitted; the history is perfect; and I shall be glad if you can give me any idea as to the time when you will be ready to help me make large vol. which you proposed to get [ready?] in the winter. I am heartily glad you are sure - or nearly so -of your [illegible] office. I sincerely congratulate you, and shall look with fresh interest upon [John?] Julius Cesear.
For myself, I have no employment. Could you not in the meanwhile, until a Conselship falls vacent, which you were to [illegible illegible] to promise to get me, could you not secure me some temporary employment as Clerk in Washington? in the Quarter
Masters Depertment or Elsewhere? This will be a small matter to you - and I know your good [illegible] be will prompt you do it for me - for to me just now Such a appointment is a matter of life and death.
I am always yours truly
