           Gov. of Illinois. _

                       I have this moment written you a letter at the request of Hon. Thomas Drummond of the United States Court, asking for the appointment of his son as Quartermaster of the 13th Illinois Cavalry.  You know Judge Drummond, and will readily believe that his son is in every way qualified to hold such a position.  I earnestly hope you will appoint him without delay.
