To His Excellency Richard Yates.
Gov. of the State of Illinois.
Hon Sir
I have a son a prisoner of war at Florence, South Carolina and would like to send him a box of provisions and clothing if I was certain he would get it. I was directed by Mr. Ayres to apply to you for directions how to send it that he would be most likely to get it. You would oblige me very much by giving me the best information in your power.
I sent him as box last February (he was then at Richmond) and have never heard from him
until this morning. I received a letter stating that he was at Florence S.C. and wishing me to send him some provisions he is not from this state, he was a member of Com. I the 7th O.V.C. and was taken a prisoner in September 1863. I would willingly give him the last Dollar that I have, if I was shure he would get it, but am too poor to send it to perpose.
The best instructions you cam give me will be very thankfully received.
Respectfully Yours
