Gov Yates
My dear Sir
Your letter with speeches was duly recd and they are being judiciously distributed. we certainly have great reason to rejoice over the result of the Election Treason in the North got a fatal stab on the 8th Copperheads will be quiet I trust in the coming Legislature.
Illinois has a glorious record. her 31.083 majority for the Union in 1864 is second only in importance to her 197.000 brave soldiers who are battling at the front for the cause of "freedom & the Union" and to you my dear sir---great and lasting praises are due for the proud position we now occupy as a state, with highest considerations I am Truly Yours
