To Governor Yates
Dr Sir enclosed is a letter from William Miller who enlisted at Bloomington in the 8 Reg Illinois volunteers under Capt Denison I think
He was wounded in the right arm in the siege of Vicksburg – returned home on furlough and left here last spring. His Mother feels distressed from what he writes that he is sick – that he cannot draw money or clothing, and that he is claimed in a cavalry Co. when he belongs to the 8th Infantry.
His mother respectfully asks your Notice and influence in his behalf in case of any wrong or neglect done to his injury, and by so doing you will confer on her and his relatives a great kindness
respectfully your obt servt Jn Baker
