Hon Richard Yates
Dear Sir
Yours of 29th (illegible) is received I intend faithfully to perform the promises I made to you last fall, I suppose that Norton is intriguing to beat you. Get the pretense that the appointment of Longworth defeated his nomination is the merest humbug. In this district I think Norton can influence McIntyre of Will Co, and probably the DuPage Co man. I dont think of any one else whom he can influence, I think the three men from this Co, the one from Kendall, Livingston, Hopkins of Quincy will be for you. I will come down to Springfield if necessary, and in the meantime will look about the district
