i this Evening take the responsibility of Righting a few Lines in Reference to My Situation in Aug 1862 i Enlisted in the 87 th ills inft Regt at that time i Had a wife and 6 children and put the utmost confadence in My wife things progressed with Satisfaction untill in the Spring 64 with My Consent My wife Hired a young man to tend a crop and the 5th of Last Aug i received news that My wife was conducting Her Self in a very disgracefull way She applied for a divorce without any cause only i was in the army Her and this
Man She Hired is yet Together i Rote Several Letters for Her to dismiss Him but it is not done She also alowes Him to Whip the children Shamefully and Mistreat them in Every Respect one of My children died i Have tried Every Means of getting a furlow to go to relieve My children Lt Colonel Crebs Has done all He could to git a furlow for Me but Has failed i Have No one their that would relieve them i Have 3 brothers in the 98th Ills as My officers appears anscious for Me to go concluded to rite to you
I would Like to be Relieved in tireley So i could take care of My children but if i could Have a furlow it is probal that i Mite be great
advantage to them If you wish to know More perticklery about the case or in Regard to My Charachter Either as a Man or Soldier aply to Lt. Colonel Crebs Comanding the 87th, ills Mtd inft I am a privet in Co. C 87th Ills If you could assist Me it would be a favor that never would be forgotten Hoping to Here from you soon
