December 10th. 1864.
To His Excellency the Governor of Illinois.
Dear Sir.
My Son Henry Baumunk is a member of Capt Vaughns Battery, and is at present Stationed at Little Rock Arkansas. He has been from home for the last 8 years. He was on his way home from the west, and when he arrived in Springfield in your State he joined the Battery, and has been in the Service upwards of Two years. and has not had a furlough or leave of absence Since he entered the Service, And as I and his mother are becoming quite old, and his mother especially is very infirm, your Excellency will confer a lasting favor on us if you will use your influence to procure him a furlough for a Short time that he may visit us, and we will guarantee that he will return to the Service at the expiration
of his Furlough. I hope your Excellency will Condesend to give us your influence on this occasion and thereby greatly oblige the aged parents of Henry Baumunk
yours Very Respectfully
Michael Baumunk
