Richard Yate

Governor of

the State of Illinois

Dear sir

& Brother

We wish to call your

attention to one Milton

Smith a private in Co

F 26th Regiment Illinois

veteran volanteers who

has received two wounds

in the head he is unable

to do Military duty and

would have been discharge

by the order of Dr. Buck

but owing to an order for

the Transfer of 200 invalid

soldiers from Camp Butler

to Quincy he being one of


that number Now we

would fancy you to use

your influence to have

him discharge and sent

home as he can be better

cared for at home among

friends than he can be in

camps of the army

We have plenty of able

bodied men to finght

without keeping Such

wounded Soldiers in the

army We would refer

you to our poll books

as an evidence of the

amount of able bodied

men in our county and

also to the number of

men we [illegible]

in the sevvice
