His excellency Gov Yates

Sir you are aware that I called on you a few days since to obtain my rights to a Lieutenancy in Capt Hill's Co. I was sorry that I had to appeal to you for my rights but I knew of no other chance & I feel satisfied that I have not asked in vain for rights that I hold sacred. I want to serve my Country. i know her cause is just & I have made many sacrifices to sustain the glorious old flag that has floated over so many fields of victory. I have been robed of my rights & through you only I can get justice, though I am but an humble applicant without wealth or influence yet I feel, and you will agree with me that my rights are as sacred as one who has the greatest wealth & influence in the world. I would say in conclusion if you cant grant my request I earnestly hope that you will grant me the privilige of gettin up a co. of infantry & report to you as soon as possible for service as I shall never be satisfied to go into the ranks under Capt Hitt. You will oblige me verry much if you can send me an answer to Naples Scott Co Ill

Your humble Servt
