Dr Sir
An affidavit concerning the feeble condition and unfitness for duty of Sergt Wm G. Witherell of Co K. 64th Ill. Inftry, was submitted to you some time in the forepart of the present month and forwarded with your Endorsement to him. This was submitted to Post Surgeon - of Rome Ga. where said Witherell is confined with Chronic Diarrhoea, which has been upon him since May 1st The surgeon claimed to have no authority to discharge, furlough, or transfer any but wounded. I recommended him to apply to the Lieut. Colonel of his Regt. Now acting Colonel Witherell attempted to comply but was seized with a relapse & his disease is worse than ever, almost a certainly that he cannot recover having twice, suffered a change for the worse. His friend are anxious for his transfer to the Chicago hospital, and if consistent with your duty & position would be glad of your aid in this matter
Yours Respectfully E. M, Haines
