To His Excellency Richard Yates
Governor of Ills
Sir a communication was sent you by Mr Rough of our place asking some post in a Hospital and proposing that at a day when the black man Shall be Schooled he would teach (health?) there. You answered him fully and very Satisfactory as to the latter branch of his request of the Subject; tho as to the post in Some Hospital he seems to long for a place where he thinks (& as I think) his field of usfulness may be extended in behalf of our sick & wounded soldiers. So that if you have or can find any opening for him in such a place please to assign it to him as I think he will fill it with credit & great zeal
Yours V
W W Chapman
