Gov Yates: Dear Sir:
Being a thorough Union man, and desirous of the welfare of our common country I write to inform you of the movements of the greatest enemies of the Government. [viz:?] copperheads, or home traitors. They have organized some two or three companies in this place and vicinity. And it is quite probable they will amek application for Arms. They are here today drilling. Are quite active in this part of the State. I can not see the
propriety of their movements. They declare they will resist the draft. Although I am but an humble citizen yet I feel great anxiety for the success of a free Government. I have contributed three years and though not actually ablemud { am willing, if necessary, to give three years more. I thought a hint though from a mud [illegible] would not be out of place. I hope you will pardon my great presumptive in addressing you.
