To his Excellency Richard Yates,

         Governor of The State of Illinois,

                                                     Sir

                                                        I have the honour to ask for Information in relation to my muster I being formerly a member of Co. D. 45th Illinois Enrolled and mustered as we understood it on the 3d day of September 1861 by Lieut Goodwin of the Regular Army.  he gave us to understand that our time of service commenced on that date  I would Respectfully ask wether my term of service expires on the 3rd day of September 1864 or on the  21st day of November 1864 it being the date of muster of the Regiment, I was transferred from my Regiment to the Veteran Reserve Corps.  My Descriptive Roll is dated the 21st Nov. 1861
