Dr. Sir,
Your letter of the 23d. to me (T.S. Ridgway) is to hand by Mr. Meyer; in regard to Mr R. I will write to you by mail more fully.
We now write to request that you send us without delay, the Shell for our two ps. Artillery which I gave memo. of to Col. Crowell, but which has not come, as Mr, Meyer informs us, that the State has but few Shell, & none to spare,
Please have sent to us
100 rounds of fixed shell for a 12 pounder smooth base Iron Cannon,
100 rounds, same for a 6 pounder smooth base Iron Cannon,
and fuse for both
also 5,000 to 10,000 rounds cartridges for the old Harper's Ferry Musket (that we have already)
The Country opposite us is not free from Guerilla's.
Yesterday some 60 or more appeared on the Ky. shore 15 to 18 miles above here, and fired into two passenger steamer's, with revolving rifles, as over 100 shots struck one boat, and 20 the other, Strange to say no one on either boat was struck. -
We will have trouble all along this shore for month's to come, unless a force of Cavalry is put into that Country, and remain until the last guerilla is run out, or captured.
Yr.s truly in Haste
Peeples & Ridgway.
