Richard Yates
Gov State of Ills.
Sir,
On the 28th day of July 1862 I enlisted under the call for recruits to fill up Old Regts.
I being told that I would have to surve only the unexpired term of the Regt that I enlisted in.
I therefore enlisted
in the Old 52nd, of which John S. Wilcox was Col.
Lt E. S. Wilcox was the Recruiting Officer, at Elgin. Kane. Co. Ills.
Gov. I would be pleased to have you tell me in regard to gettng out when the nonveterans do. or will I have to surve three years from date of enlistment.
I have not heard of any of the Recruits of "62" geting out in Our State. But I know of some in the Iowa Regt who have.
