Dear Sir,
As many appointments are being made, & to be made, by the President of the United States & his Sectys; I would ask you to give me a letter of recommendation to him or them, asking them to confer upon me the appointment of Paymaster, Regimental or Brigade Quarter Master, or some such position - I have offered my services to you & our State, but so far without success. I suppose because there are better men to fill the positions - & I thought I would ask your aid for an appointment elswhere. I am still ready to take service under you. My family being entirely dependant upon me, is the only reason why I am not in as a private. an early answer will oblige
Yours truly
