Dr Sir:

At the request of Lorin G. Jeffers of this County I send you his application & recommendation accompanying this, in order that you may, if you think proper, add your own recommendation, based of course on the information these papers supply you. Tho' I have but a brief acquaintance with the applicant, he has my confidence decidedly, & I feel confident there would be no mistake made in giving him such a place as he applys for in the army. If you think proper to add something to the recommendation, please forward to the applicant at Summerfield, St. Clair Co. Ills. or direct to Washington, as you think best.
