or, The Art of Playing the Pianoforte Made Easy! The above is the title of a work containing a new method of instruction for the pianoforte or melodeon written by the celebrated author and teacher, Adolph Baumbach, who, for more than a quarter of a century, has been engaged in imparting instruction on the above named instruments.

There is probably no teacher better fitted to classify and arrange the rudiments of the science of music--one who fully understands the wants of the pupil, knowing how to explain, arrange and simplify the lessons for practice, than Mr. Baumbach. His extensive experience as a teacher and composer, has thoroughly fitted him for this work. The explanations, rules and exercises, are made so simple and plain, that almost any person can make a good player by the aid of the "Melodica," without the assistance of a teacher.

The pupil will find, on the 3d page, an exact representation of the KEYBOARD OF A SEVEN OCTAVE PIANOFORTE, The white keys being lettered and divided into octaves, are represented on the musical staff, both by letters and characters. A glance at the key-board will enable any one to name the keys by the first seven letters of the alphabet, giving the number of octaves. On page 4 is a full and complete DICTIONARY OF MUSIC TERMS. On page 13, 14, 15 and 16, will be found Correct Rules for Fingering the Appoggiatura, Turns, Trills, Shakes and Dotted Notes, with examples for practice, which is fully explained, WITH THE PROPER USE OF THE PEDALS. The exercises commencing on page 17 are all of the AMERICAN FINGERING, and extend to page 34. On pages 34, 35 and 36, will be found the MAJOR SCALES carefully marked and fingered, in all the different keys. On pages 37, 38, 39, and 40 will be found MINOR SCALES, marked and fingered in like manner. The rest of the book is made up of the CHOICEST SELECTIONS OF MUSIC, consisting of the most simple airs and melodies, together with the more difficult.
