Transcription

At a special meeting of the town council of the borough of Banbury, in the county of Oxford, held on Friday, the 5th day of May, 1865, the mayor in the chair, it was

Unanimously resolved, That this council has heard with the deepest sorrow and indignation of the assassination of President Lincoln, and sincerely sympathize with the parliament and people of the United States in the great loss they have sustained, by the death of so able and so good a man, and this council cannot thus express its feeling without adding is heartfelt sympathy with Mrs. Lincoln.

That Sir Charles Douglass, member of Parliament for the borough, be requested to forward a copy of the above resolution to the American minister.
