Wm Butler Esq. Tr.

Springfield, Ills.

Dear Sir.

The following extract is at the close of last letter recd from my brother at Corinth: "I suppose the time for voting on the new Constitution is past. We have not had the pleasure of voting on the infernal instrument. In spite of the villainous documents circulated through our regiment, the new Constitution could not now get a vote in this regiment."

I deem this of such moment that I have copied same and shall direct this to yourself and other State officers, fearing you may be away. My bro. named in foregoing is same about whom I have written you. Tell the Journal to give Mo Republican "Kenniption fits." Next to N. Y. Herald it is one of the worst sheets on the continent. My bros regt. 9th Illinois.

Very Truly
