Hon. Richard Yates U.S. Senator Washington D.C.
My Dear friend when I last saw you in Springfield I thought I might be in Washington on or about the day of [Inauguration?], but circumstances are such that it [renders?] it out of my power to be in Washington at that time, hence I drop you a few lines & simply say that as my health is Rather poor & my confinement in my office dose not agree with me & hence I am compelled to seek Something Else to do & I ask of you to get me an appointment of paymaster in the army, or an associate Judgeship in Some of the Territories or Some position that will pay me for my time, if any Recommendations are necessary I can get all the prominent members of our Last Legislature, if needed write & Let me know, I would not Trouble you if I did not need it & think I deserve a place as much as many others who are getting them. Col [Larson?] is a friend of mine & will do anything for me he can hoping to hear from you Soon & that you can do Something for me I Remain as Ever your friend Joseph Peters
