Gov. Yates,
Dear Sir
I receved your kind letter stating that you had ask'd a fulough for my Brother A. Lewis of the Chicago Board of Trade Battery but I have not seen him come yet I think it takes the Comanding officer a good while to make up his mind to let him come if he wanted to come home himself he would not be so long about it but because it is a poor private he has got his [notions?] to wate Cant you hurry him up I need my Brother hear verry much to setle some business that my father left unsetled when he died last Spring I think after his being gone 2 years and not coming home that he had ought ---- to be a lowed to come home for such a short time I hope you will see what you can do I receved a letter today from my Brother stating that was not on the march now I hope you will pardon my presumpsions for writing you the 2 letter please and answer this and tell me what I may Expect and then I will know beter what to do and oblige Miss Emma Lewis Chicago Pleas Direct Mr G W Gardner Wright Street Corner of Jefferson and Oblige ----
