To the President of United States
William R Lockwood is an applicant for the Office of Post Master at this place he is highly recommended by our Citizens for the position
I know Mr Lockwood will make an efficient Officer and am aware that our Citizens want a change at this place. I take pleasure in assuring the President that it will gratify his many Friends at this place to have Mr L appointed to the position he asks. He has been and is one of the active Republicans who has given time and means in Supporting the Administration and is truly deserving encouragement

If the President does not feel disposed to make a change in the Post Office here as one interested in behalf of the Administration I respectfully request that Mr Lockwoods claims receive attention and that he be given some Position that will tend to [relieve?] him he is capable and will fill any Position he may ask with [illegible]
