With W. Walker letter 3/7/65
Havana Jany 25th 1865
Hon Richard Yates,
Dear Sir:
I enclose you a communication taken from the Chicago Tribune that fully expresses my views on the subject therin expressed. It is surely time that those who have been disabled in the service of their country nobly fighting for the establishment of freedom should be remembered and have positions given them. I hope that you will not feel it incompatible with your sense of duty as the "Soldiers friend" to ask for Capt W.W. Stout the position of Provost Marshal of the 9th district. The capt has forwarded the strongest testimonials to the President through our mutual friend W. H. Herndon Esq. If I have any claims on you or the President for past friendship and
devotion to each of you let me urge this request.
I thank you for the complimentary Commission just receivd
Yours Very Respectfully
W Walker
