Decatur Ills March 2nd 1865
Hon Richard Yates
Dear Sir
Permit me to write you on a subject that I feel a execp interest in I intended to have been in Washington on the 4th but cannot on account of my health I have not been well for the last few days I would like to have my former services in the service of the Goverment acknowledged by the appointment of Brig Genl I think I have earned it I have heretofore sent all my recommendations to Washington
The President knows me as will as any man in Illinois I presume some one heretofore has interfered with my promotion will you go to the President & urge my claims I would like some appointment if not Brig Genl something equal to such appointment I would like the appointment because it would vindicate my course as an officer in
in the Army of the US I commanded as a Brig Genl for near two years to the entire satisfaction of my superior officers & with the universal good will of all under my command
Drop me a line after you have done what you think best on the subject Give my respects to Judge Kelogg also to the President
Yours Truly
I C Pugh
