This will be handed to you by Edward Wells. Esq of this city. who has kindly volunteerid, to take a petition to the President asking him to give me the appointment of Post Master of Quincy
I would respectfully ask of you whatever assistance you may think me worthy of in laying my claim before the President. I also give him copies of letters to you, the original of which I believe is in your possession they will show my reputation in the army
Beleiving from your reputation as a Soldiers friend, and the late acts of Congress, that you will give me what assistance is in your power.
